Playstation Network Having Issues...Again

According to the Playstation Service Status page, PSN is having issues again. The status was posted just today and lists the affected platforms as Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. Sony is only offering up the following explanation:

PSN down: PS4 and PS3 gamers hit by fresh issues following Sony download speed problems

Issues of struggling to sign in and playing friends online first started to be reported at around 8pm, UK time. The PlayStation status Page, which tracks the stability of key online features for the Sony consoles, has been updated with more information on the situation.
